You killed me! book review

A lot of people think that the bigger a book is, the more satisfying and better it is to finish. I know this because I used to be someone with that exact mindset. That is exactly why I was slightly hesitant and admittedly disappointed when I first saw the book that I had received as a gift. To me it seemed like a children’s book. Surely Michael Morpurgo’s mudpuddle farm was denser than this? How on earth could an author condense a complex murder story into such a small number of pages?

The thing is, the book was never intended to be written as a labyrinthine horror story with sinister tones and hidden clues buried between the lines. Nay, it is merely a short, sharp little book meant to entertain the reader for a small amount of time. It was a quick escape from boredom and the sooner I realised this, the sooner I was able to invest my time and care into the characters.

It is quick and fun and though there is not much depth and the strange chain of events is far from realistic (though that is not something you should be worrying about when you are simply reading for entertainment). Despite this, characters are still able to discover and resolve interesting challenges such as the consequences of your actions and I was quickly hooked into the unique plot ( or something I have never seen at least ).

In the end, it was able to keep me busy for an hour. It was extremely easy to get intrigued in the story and soar through the pages. Though I did hope for the horror aspect of the story with its ghost to be explored and touched upon a bit more, it was a pleasant read and I certainly recommend it for the times boredom strikes with a critical hit.
