AC Revelations first impressions

And so, my growing and somewhat unhealthy obsession with the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ franchise continues, now in the form of a book (Assassin’s Creed Revelations to be more precise). I was intrigued by this book, not only because it had AC in its title but also because I was curious to see how they would portray the story of a game in the form of a book.

One thing I can say abut this book is that it focuses more on describing its more action-packed parts of the story rather than painstakingly slaving over every last detail in the surroundings when setting the scene. I for one am grateful for this decision as I am the sort of ready who focuses more on the plot and story rather than the various descriptive techniques. I prefer it when I am able to imagine the scene myself, reading on only to gather more information to add to the play taking place in my head. But this does not mean I don’t appreciate the subtle imagery and other various themes presented in the writing (for example, the repeated connection of the assassins and eagles). What I am trying to say is that there must be a certain balance of description in a book for me or certain scenes can feel over written.
Another thing I am able to praise this book for is the main protagonist, the Mentor of the assassins, the one and the only, Ezio. When I normally read a book, the main character is normally young and teaming with energy. Though they are very easy to relate to as a young reader myself, it often gets tiresome seeing a story from the same naïve mindset (I always find it strange when boisterous, immature teenagers are the ones tasked with saving the world). In this book, the character is much older, and thus feels more like a believable person. The small details on the way he stumbles to find his bearings or the way he runs out of breath easily reinforces the fact that he is just a human who is capable of reaching his limits. The years have taken some of his strength and speed, thus creating a more realistic character. However, what he lacks in the young, strong figure he makes up for it with experience and a heck of a load of patience. It was a joy reading how he is able to use his quick wit and fighting experience to break out of challenging (and deadly) situations.
In the end, I am yet to finish this book. I know I know, I am a very slow reader (the summer heat has a mystical way of making feel like a motionless glob) but I can say one thing for sure; form what I have seen so far in this book, I am excited to see where Ezio and his quest takes him.

  1. Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind me asking what theme
you’re using? (and don’t mind if I steal it? :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like yours– but the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google (would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during
    the coronavirus scare!
